REPRESENTASI KONSEP PENEBUSAN KESALAHAN DALAM PERSPEKTIF ISLAM: Analisis Karakter Amir dan Hassan Dalam Film The Kite Runner (2007)

Abstract

Film is an effective mass communication medium for conveying moral and religious values, one of which is through the universal theme of guilt and redemption. Marc Forster's The Kite Runner (2007), although not labeled a religious film, raises the theme of redemption that intersects with the concept of repentance and forgiveness in Islam, while previous research on this film tends to stop at the study of narrative structure or comparative literature without specifically touching on the Islamic perspective. This study aims to analyze how Todorov's narrative structure depicts the personality dynamics of the characters Amir and Hassan, as well as analyze and describe the representation of the concept of redemption in the film viewed from an Islamic perspective. Using a qualitative narrative approach, this study combines Stuart Hall's theory of representation, Tzvetan Todorov's five narrative stages (equilibrium, disruption, recognition of disruption, attempt to repair the disruption, and new equilibrium), and the Islamic ethical concepts of haqqul adami (the rights of fellow human beings), islah (reconciliation), and ihsan (goodness beyond obligation). The results of the study show that Todorov's five stages consistently represent Amir's psychological turmoil from guilt to self-recovery, which is in line with the three stages of Islamic redemption: the violation of haqqul adami due to his betrayal of Hassan, the attempt at islah through the act of saving Sohrab, and the achievement of ihsan through the sincerity of adopting him. This study concludes that the film strongly represents the concept of redemption from an Islamic perspective through Amir's journey.
